What are tics and Tourette’s Syndrome?
Tourette’s Syndrome is diagnosed when a patient displays a range of persistent, chronic tics, typically initially identified in childhood. It is not clear why some people suffer from the condition, but it is likely to be due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. While some people have extreme cases of Tourette’s, most people with the condition suffer from a milder version that, with management, does not have to impact seriously on their quality of life. The vast majority of people do not even need medication but can learn how to manage their symptoms effectively.
