About Sofiia Chuhunova
Sofiia Chuhunova is a Trainee Counselling Psychologist currently completing her Professional Doctorate (PsychD) in Counselling Psychology at the University of Roehampton, London. With over three years of experience supporting individuals with their mental health across a variety of settings, she is committed to delivering compassionate, person-centred, and evidence-based psychological care.
Sofiia’s therapeutic approach is collaborative and integrative, combining humanistic, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioural perspectives. She values each client’s individuality and complexity, tailoring her therapeutic style to meet their unique emotional, relational, and psychological needs. At the heart of her work lies a deep belief that every person has the capacity to grow, heal, and reach their full potential when supported within a safe, empathic, and non-judgemental space.
Her clinical experience includes working within a forensic mental health service, where she provided one-to-one support to individuals involved in the criminal justice system presenting with conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, addiction, personality disorders, and neurodiversity (Autism, ADHD). In this setting, she worked closely with NHS teams, GPs, probation services, and charities, developing tailored risk management and safety plans to ensure client wellbeing. Sofiia also served as the Women’s Champion within the service, advocating for gender-informed support and contributing to trauma-informed service improvements.
In addition to her forensic work, Sofiia has worked in a mental health charity supporting individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts and children with neurodiversity needs. Her earlier professional experiences include working as a Nursery Teaching Assistant, where she supported children’s emotional and developmental wellbeing, and volunteering as a Listening Volunteer with The Listening Place, providing confidential emotional support to individuals in crisis. She has also volunteered with Switchboard, an LGBTQIA+ support service, where she continues to provide affirming and inclusive care around identity, relationships, and mental health.
Sofiia holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with First Class Honours from Regent’s University London, a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University (Kharkiv, Ukraine), and a Certificate in Counselling Skills and Studies. She is currently pursuing a Certificate in Therapeutic Skills and Studies at Metanoia Institute. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Sofiia has completed extensive professional training in Motivational Interviewing, Risk Management, Trauma-Informed Practice, Safeguarding Adults and Children, and Formulation & Report Writing.
Alongside her studies, Sofiia is engaged in research focusing on stress and anxiety in the context of modern life’s increasing pressures. Her academic background and research interests inform her clinical practice, ensuring that her work remains reflective, ethically grounded, and evidence-based.
A Graduate Member (GMBPsS) of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a member of the Division of Counselling Psychology, Sofiia is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of professional ethics, confidentiality, and ongoing development.
Offering both online and face-to-face counselling sessions, Sofiia strives to make therapy accessible and effective for every client. She also provides a complimentary 15-minute introductory call to help potential clients determine whether her approach feels like the right fit.
Her mission is to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive therapeutic environment that empowers individuals to explore their inner world, strengthen emotional resilience, and move toward healing and personal growth.
