Dr. Shirin Shams is a Counselling Psychologist with detailed knowledge of, and experience of working in, the area of mental health, acquired over the course of ten years in both the public and the private sector, and with patients presenting with a wide range of mental health and emotional issues. With qualifications from the University of Roehampton, City University London, and the University of Westminster, her practice combines the highest professional standards with a firmly client-centred approach adhering to highly respected ethics codes, and builds on the extensive experience that she has accumulated. Dr. Shirin Shams has been trained in a variety of clinically proven therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic Therapy, which can be used separately, or combined in an integrated approach suited to the unique needs of each patient. Dr Shams has a background of working with patients with a wide range of mental health issues, and from diverse social, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds, and she works with both adults and children. In all cases, her practice is centred on the importance of dialogue, the individual’s subjective, personal experiences, and the nature of relationships, together with the application of clinically approved techniques and methods suited to the specific problem with which her patient presents. Dr Shams has excellent language skills in English, Swedish, Norwegian, and Farsi, and can provide counselling in all of these languages. As well as providing therapy and counselling, Dr Shams is experienced in the application of psychometric testing.
