Dr. John O’Connor is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years post-qualification experience and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. He identifies and treats psychological problems across the entire spectrum with particular expertise in depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions and work/relationship issues.
Dr. John O’Connor uses a range of evidence-based therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and is passionate about identifying and using clients’ personal virtues in tackling psychological distress.
Experience
Dr. John O’Connor was Head of Psychological Therapies at a private psychiatric practice in Surrey. He completed clinical training in East London under the supervision of Prof Mary Boyle and have worked in a variety of NHS settings including Great Ormond St Hospital and Ealing Primary Care Trust. His Doctoral research explored the diagnosis of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and was completed at The Institute of Psychotrauma in London. In 2008 Dr. John O’Connor was appointed at Consultant level by The Ministry of Defence to lead the provision of mental health services in the UK and Germany. He is also widely recognised as an Expert Witness and have conducted many assessments for the courts.
