The course includes two impactful assignments designed to showcase your expertise and make a meaningful impact.
For Assignment 1, you’ll write a compelling 1000-word blog post on your chosen area of interest. This task allows you to explore the topic deeply and share your insights, experiences, and practical strategies with a broader audience.
Building on this, Assignment 2 challenges you to create a thought-provoking 10-minute video presenting your expertise in your chosen area. This dynamic format empowers you to communicate your insights and therapeutic approaches effectively.
You also have the opportunity to have your outstanding work published on our website and shared across our social media platforms. This platform enables you to highlight your skills, amplify your voice, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on mental health.
-
Do I have to have my coursework published?
We recognize that not everyone may feel ready to have their work published, and that’s completely okay. Participation in this aspect is entirely optional. However, for those excited to seize this opportunity, it can be a significant step towards sharing your expertise, building a personal brand, and unlocking new professional avenues.
-
Do I get experience with real clients on the course?
Private Therapy Clinic receives inquiries daily from various sources. Often, clients prefer their initial contact to be a phone conversation where they can discuss their reasons for seeking therapy. We conduct a brief triage assessment via video call during these initial contacts.
These calls are often the first opportunity for clients to talk about their issues. It’s crucial for those handling these calls to demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and strong assessment skills. It’s important to note that clients reaching out may already be dealing with mental health challenges, which can make these conversations challenging. This emphasizes the need for patience and understanding.
Our course will train you to conduct these calls professionally and handle any challenges that may arise. You will learn how to effectively communicate and make recommendations to clients using skills such as active listening and basic counseling techniques. This training ensures you can confidently reassure clients and provide accurate referrals to our senior practitioners.
-
Do I get experience with real clients on the course?
We understand that many applicants aspire to gain hands-on experience with clients, which is invaluable for future career opportunities. While acceptance into the course is a significant step, it does not guarantee immediate client-facing roles as a regular therapy provider. We carefully select candidates for these positions based on suitability.
However, graduates of the course may choose to submit their CVs to Private Therapy Clinic afterward. Depending on their qualifications and experience, they may be considered for interviews for paid positions providing therapy on a case-by-case basis.
If selected for such a role in the future, your title would be Psychological Counsellor. You would join our low-cost therapy team, provided you are registered with a professional body like the BPS through completion of your undergraduate program.
-
Is Clinical Supervision provided as part of the course?
While clinical supervision is not included in the course, it becomes necessary once you start seeing clients. Clinical supervision is crucial for effective client work and is required even by experienced practitioners. When the time comes for you to begin client sessions, we will offer various options for clinical supervision from our team of practitioners to support your needs.
Additionally, there may be opportunities to participate in group supervision sessions where you can present cases and discuss others’. These experiences are invaluable for your development as a clinical practitioner.
Furthermore, it’s important to have professional indemnity insurance to see clients under any contracts provided.
-
Have there been success stories from past intakes of this course?
We’ve achieved great success in helping candidates achieve their goals. Many past participants of our courses have successfully gained admission to Clinical Psychology programs, Counseling Psychology courses, or joined BABCP-accredited CBT courses.

Evidence based therapies course Reviews
Mental Health Coaching Course. Having studied on PTC’s mental health coaching course I would definitely recommend it for those wanting to expand their knowledge across a wide range of psychological theories and illnesses. The course fits in well with my full time job and I have learnt so much from the range of lecturers who facilitate sessions. The assignments allow for the application of skills and knowledge to practise and all aspects are well thought out. 5*

I am currently taking part in the Mental Health Coaching course that is offered by the clinic. As a postgraduate, this course has been a great way to continue learning and practising my therapeutic skills. The insight you gain from trained professionals is invaluable and delves a bit deeper than undergraduate learning. The time commitment is ideal for someone working full time. I work full time and volunteer – however, I find I am still able to fit this course into my schedule and get the most out of it.
This course is perfect for someone (like myself) wishing to embark on a career in clinical psychology and take the next steps on to their masters/doctorate courses.
Niamh Gregory-Manning
I have been doing the Mental Health Coaching course for the past couple of months and I can tell you that it has been absolutely amazing. It has broadened my knowledge of psychological disorders and different therapy modalities so much. Every week I learn something new. They also make it super interesting. It fits with my full time job perfectly. All the psychologists who have been teaching it are amazing and so knowledgeable. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to widen their knowledge or is looking for more experience and learning and wants to apply for a Doctorate or masters. I feel confident that this course has helped me extremely on my journey of becoming a psychologist myself.

Currently enrolled in the part time course at the private therapy clinic. Honestly haven’t got enough good things to say about it. The lecturers give fantastic insight into a variety of topics that you would usually learn in undergraduate psychology based degrees however they give it from a perspective of therapists and give fantastic views on what certain elements of psychology are like in the therapy world. Couldn’t recommend this course enough for anyone that is trying to further their psychology career. Thank you Dr Becky spell man and the private therapy clinic.
Dylan Cowman
I have been following the work of the private therapy clinic for a long time now, and have also been lucky enough to get a place on the evidence -based therapy course by Dr Becky Spelman. I can just say that the psychologists/ therapists teaching the course are so knowledgable, patient and dedicated to imparting their experiences and also inspiring us future psychologists! I have been so happy with the course being taught to me. It is definitely worth the time and money and will be recommending this place to the people I know ☺️

I have really been enjoying PTC’s Evidence-Based Therapies course. It’s helped me to understand much more about how to take psychological theories and apply them in practice in therapy sessions. So grateful to have had the opportunity to learn directly from different therapists the strategies they use and how they approach different issues, with real life case examples.
I feel much more confident in my own ability as a therapeutic practitioner and have already begun using the things I have learned in my own therapy sessions.
Lauren Cummins
I’ve attended their Mental Health Coaching course called Evidence-Based Therapies and it has been such a flourishing period in my psychology journey. I’ve learned so much about different modalities and disorders and the layout of the course is very flexible and online which makes it easier to fit into everyday life. The psychologists running the course are very helpful and knowledgable and are always there to support you. I would recommend this course to those wanting to get into counselling and psychology and broaden their knowledge of using evidence-based therapies in their practice.
