Dr. Alessandro Malfatto

Dr Alessandro Malfatto is a General Adult Psychiatry consultant. He currently leads an 18 bedded NHS Mental Health Inpatient Unit post in Brent. He completed his training in psychiatry in Torino (Italy) and worked several years in the same city as Clinical Director in a psychiatric rehabilitation Unit for Personality Disorders with Substance misuse issues (Dual Diagnosis) where he applied Mentalisation Based Therapy group treatments. He moved to the UK in 2009, initially working in a Substance misuse Service in Hertfordshire and then in General Adult services in London (both in outpatient and in inpatient settings).

Background And Experience

Over the years he has gained extensive experience in the treatment of severe and enduring mental disorders like Bipolar Affective disorder, Schizophrenia, Major depression.

Dr Malfatto has been doing ADHD assessment both in the NHS and in the private sector since 2019.

Experience

Dr. Alessandro Malfatto holds a Diploma  in Affective Disorders from the University of Maastricht and a Diploma in Open Dialogue from  LSBU. He has trained in Mentalisation Based Treatment, CBT, Trauma Focussed CBT and ACT.

He is currently the Imperial College Medical students site coordinator and the Postgraduate Psychiatry Trainees Local Tutor in Brent.

Treatment approach

Dr Malfatto offers assessment and treatment of a wide range of conditions including Anxiety syndrome, Major Depression, Bipolar affective disorder, ADHD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He can assess and support patients with personality disorders but he is conscious that they need a wider intervention where medications have a less significant role in comparison to psychotherapy.

Dr Malfatto is firmly convinced of the importance of the therapeutic relationship with patients as the main therapeutic factor. He believes that patients always bring their individual experiences and challenges which deserve specific and undivided attention. He Believes in devising collaborative plans which include medications, psychotherapy and rehabilitative interventions
