I have been working with eating disorder inpatients for the past 4.5 years, both adults and adolescents. I have worked closely with the patient and their family to ensure their intake meets their requirements and to help challenge them with a range of foods to ensure they have a varied diet. I work within the scope of their abilities so am able to push some more than others. Many have started their journey with me petrified of most foods and over time we have made it possible for them to eat out with friends and family, try new restaurants and repeatedly look to challenge their beliefs around food. I am now also completing a masters in Sports Nutrition as there is a prevalence of disordered eating in sports and many young people would like to eat healthily in conjunction with their sports and I would like to assist them in doing this safely and without missing out on any key nutrients. I work with a range of meal plans, including vegetarian, vegan, IBS and diagnosed allergies and intolerances.
I have also worked closely with families of children with fussy eating habits and children and adolescents on the autistic spectrum. This is helped by my personal experience as my oldest son was fed via a feeding tube for his first 3 years and is diagnosed with ASD. So I am able to apply both my clinical and personal experience to this group of people.
