Marta Drzewiczewska an HCPC-registered counselling psychologist with over a decade of experience in providing specialist assessment and therapy for adults and young people with a range of conditions at different levels of severity.
Marta currently works both within the NHS and at a private service providing specialist psychological therapy for adults, young people and children with eating and mood disorders. Marta also leads a clinical project supporting early access to mental health provision amongst under-served communities, including those from ethnic minority backgrounds, refugees, and survivors of domestic abuse.
Clinical Expertise
Marta Drzewiczewska has experience of offering therapy for a range of presentations including disrupted attachments, low self-esteem, and mood disorders (depression and anxiety). Marta has specialist clinical experience in the treatment of eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder and atypical eating disorders), body image disturbances and somatic expressions of emotional distress.
Marta offers psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mentalization-based treatment (MBT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). Marta’s breadth of experience allows her to tailor her approach to suit the individual needs of her clients.
In her clinical practice, Marta works alongside patients to recreate their emotional capacities and help them to become more emotionally open and capable of relating to others, as well as helping them to develop an individual sense of inner freedom.
Clinical Training
Following completion of her core education in clinical psychology, Marta has undertaken further specialist training in the treatment of eating disorders,including in CBT-E (Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders – at the Centre for Research on Eating Disorders at the University of Oxford), SSCM (Specialist Supportive Clinical Management – at University College London’s Division of Medicine) and FT- AN (Family Based Treatment for Anorexia Nervosa). These are three of the NICE-approved therapies for the treatment of eating disorders. Additionally, Marta has attended training in long-term psychodynamic interventions at the Tavistock Clinic.
In addition to her clinical work, Marta Drzewiczewska has a background in research into understanding the relationship between psychological and bodily identity in anorexia nervosa and obesity.
Marta works in multi-cultural settings and can offer therapy in both English and Polish.
