Therapeutic Approaches

Dr Paula Murphy qualified as a doctor in 2001. She worked in Glasgow and Melbourne as a hospital doctor between 2001-2005. She moved to London in 2005 to specialise in psychiatry and did her basic psychiatric training on the Royal Free rotation between 2005-2009. She sub-specialised in forensic psychiatry on the South London and Maudsley rotation between 2009-2012. She has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist at St Andrew’s Healthcare, a specialist mental health facility providing in-patient care since 2012.

She has extensive clinical experience of a wide range of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, and neurotic/stress-related and behavioural disorders. She believes in a holistic approach, offering individualised treatment in a range of modalities She also acts as an expert witness to the courts in both criminal and civil cases.

Her interests include clinical leadership and management. She was a ‘Prepare to Lead’ candidate in 2010/11, a scheme aimed at preparing doctors for leadership roles. She holds a Masters degree in Public Health and Health Services Management at the London School Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She completed a scholarship with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in 2014/15. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and in books. She is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is an elected executive board member of the Forensic Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
