Anna Perry is Psychology graduate with over 2 years experience working with adults, adolescents, children and families. She is a Psychological Counsellor with a wealth of experience both in the private and public sector.
Anna has worked as an Honorary Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner in an NHS mental health drop-in centre in Birmingham city centre. Here Anna helped children and young people to explore their emotions and find coping strategies that work for them. She worked both one-on-one with these young clients and with their families. In addition to this, Anna ran therapeutic groups around poetry, creative writing, play therapy and art to help individuals express themselves. Anna brings this innovative, welcoming and non-judgemental attitude into her therapeutic environment and her friendly approach helps to put clients at ease. This is what made Anna stand-out and win The Children’s Society National Award of 2018.
Anna has provided support for individuals with Social Anxiety, Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Autism and more. She uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques to re-evaluate unhelpful thinking patterns. Our thoughts can affect our emotions and behaviours and vice versa. Anna can help you look at these relationships to help break negative patterns and introduce positive thoughts and behaviours.
Anna also uses Applied Behavioural Analysis techniques with clients with Autism. This aims to help improve their ability to communicate and reduce challenging behaviours and anxiety. She has experience working in a special needs school in a class of children with autism who were non-verbal.In this environment Anna learnt how to adapt her communication to each individual’s level using Makaton, Picture Exchange and learning ability in her tailored approach.
